Power Distribution Unit (PDU) also know the Main Distribution Unit is an electronic device used to manage and distribute electric supply to various components including servers, broadcasting devices, and computer within a data center. It serves as a central unit to control and distribute electricity across various devices. The device has multiple sources of power outputs connected to each component in the central system. Data centers face challenges in power protection as mostly the devices are contemporary and directly connected to the power source. Power Distribution Unit Form Factors:

There are three types of devices used as PDU in the system.

• Rack Mount: Used in the Rack Mount of many devices and offer multiple functions like load balancing, remote monitoring, power filtering, and improved power quality. The newer generation of PDUs includes IP consolidation, which can be linked in a single IP address.
• Cabinet: In data Centers , PDUs are required to power different devices directly interlinked with the server cabinets. Standalone cabinets are self-contained and come with a circuit bracket and power monitoring panels to control the electricity.
• Portable: These PDUs are used in personal home and office devices to power consumer devices. These devices are normally portable and come with distinct features.
